Black Friday exists to sell you things you almost bought a month ago at a slightly worse price than they will be in February. That's the trap. The list below is the small subset that is genuinely cheaper this week, that a family will use every day, and that would have been on this list without a sale.
Three rules for shopping BFCM for a family
One: only buy what was already on the shortlist. A 40% discount on something you didn't want is a 60% loss.
Two: durables over consumables. A frame, a vacuum, an air fryer — things that live in the house for five years — earn their discount. A pallet of Amazon Basics doesn't.
Three: check the 90-day price history (CamelCamelCamel or Keepa) on anything over $200. Most electronics were cheaper in July.

The mid-tier Roborock Q7 and Roomba j5 usually see their real annual low on Cyber Monday. The flagship models (Roborock S8 Pro, Roomba j9) discount less and don't do much more. A robot vacuum in a family with kids or pets pays for itself in six months of not-yelling-at-anyone-to-vacuum.
3. Ninja Foodi or Instant Vortex air fryer (large basket)
Kitchen · $100–$180
The dual-basket Ninja Foodi does what a family of four actually needs: two things at once, ready together. Reliably discounts 30% on BFCM. Skip the tiny 4-quart models — a family needs at least 8 quarts.
4. Kindle Paperwhite or Colorsoft (Kids Edition for one, Signature for the other)
Bedside · $110–$220
Amazon prices Kindles at their absolute low during BFCM. The Kids Edition includes a cover and a two-year no-questions-asked warranty; the Signature Edition gives adults a warm-light bedside reader. One of each is a great family gift.
5. Nintendo Switch OLED bundle (with a real game, not the shovelware pack)
Living room · $300–$360
Nintendo runs the same bundle every BFCM — Switch OLED plus Mario Kart or Zelda. Ignore the mystery-title bundles. This is the one game console that still works as a shared living-room gift and doesn't split the family across three TVs.
6. A Sonos One or Era 100 (usually 20% off)
Living room / kitchen · $180–$220
Sonos discounts real, once a year, on BFCM. The Era 100 is the current version; a refurbished Sonos One is even cheaper and identical for a family kitchen. Whole-house audio quietly upgrades every dinner without adding a screen.
7. A Yeti or Stanley cooler / thermos (deeper sale than any other week)
Outdoors · $40–$300
Yeti and Stanley almost never discount — except this one week. If you were going to gift a Yeti Roadie or a Stanley IceFlow, this is the week. Direct from the brand beats the Amazon third-party version.
8. A year of family photo prints — Chatbooks Monthbooks or Artifact Uprising
